Undertake brief development to address a need or opportunity
NZQA suppresses grade rates for low-cohort standards.
This standard asks you to work through a design process to develop a solution (either a design or a working prototype) that solves a real problem or takes advantage of an opportunity. You'll start by exploring the situation your teacher gives you, talk to the people affected by the problem, and then create a brief that clearly explains what you're going to build and what it needs to do.
You identify a need or opportunity, consider the environment and stakeholder views, describe what you're building, and list its physical and functional requirements in a brief with a conceptual statement and specifications.
You explain how the need or opportunity comes from the issue and the environment, show you've thought through stakeholder opinions more than once, describe the purpose of your solution in its intended environment, and explain why each physical and functional attribute is needed.
You justify why this solution should be developed in the first place, and justify why each specific physical and functional attribute is essential for it to work.
