Analyse the biological validity of information presented to the public
NZQA suppresses grade rates for low-cohort standards.
You need to take a piece of information presented to the public (like a news article, advertisement, or social media post about biology) and critically analyse whether it's scientifically accurate and presented fairly. This means spotting any incorrect biological information, bias, or hidden reasons why someone might be promoting that message, and explaining what's wrong with it.
You identify and describe biological features as accurate or inaccurate, spot the purpose behind the information, and explain which parts are wrong.
You explain in detail why the biological features are inaccurate or biased, and describe how these problems could affect people's understanding or decisions.
You prioritise the most important errors, explain their wider impact on public understanding, and evaluate the overall trustworthiness of the information by comparing the accurate and inaccurate parts together.
Standards typically taken alongside or after this one. Same subject, grouped by level.
