Apply systems of equations in solving problems
This standard asks you to solve real-world and maths problems by setting up and solving pairs of equations (called systems of equations). Some of these equations might be linear (straight-line) and some might be non-linear (curved), and you need to find the values that satisfy all equations at once.
You correctly set up and solve a system of equations from a problem and state the answer, showing your method.
You select an appropriate method, solve accurately, connect your solution back to the problem context, and explain your reasoning using clear mathematical language.
You develop a logical strategy for solving the problem, identify key concepts relevant to the context, communicate mathematical insight about why your method works, and generalise your findings beyond just the specific problem.
