Analyse evidence relating to an historical event of significance to New Zealanders
This standard asks you to read historical sources (like documents, photographs, or quotes) and analyze them to understand three big historical ideas: what caused something to happen, what stayed the same and what changed, and why an event matters. You'll need to compare what the sources say to each other and use specific evidence to back up your analysis.
You answer at least one part of the question with limited evidence from sources, and you refer to the sources individually without clearly connecting them.
You understand the historical concepts and apply them accurately, address both parts of the question (e.g., continuity AND change), provide several relevant ideas supported by good evidence from the sources, and write analytically rather than just describing.
You use a wide range of relevant evidence from sources, start with a clear argument you maintain throughout, use categorization or prioritization to show which ideas matter most, demonstrate deep understanding of the material, and apply a conceptual framework to your analysis.
