Analyse methods and ideas from established painting practice
This standard asks you to analyse how and why established painters make their work—looking at their methods (how they paint) and ideas (what they're saying). You'll research at least three painters from different sources, describe what makes their work distinctive, and explain how their approaches relate to the bigger picture of art history, culture, and society.
You identify and describe the methods and styles of at least three painters, explain some of how and why they worked this way, and show you've researched from multiple sources.
You dig deeper by finding key information from a good range of sources and use specific examples from the paintings to support your discussion of particular methods and ideas.
You explain why their approaches matter by connecting them to wider historical, social, political, or geographic contexts, show independent research from many sources, and present your own evaluation and conclusions with clear supporting arguments.
