Carry out an investigation into chemical species present in a sample using qualitative analysis
You'll conduct a practical investigation to identify unknown chemical species in a sample using lab tests and observations. You'll match what you observe to known identification procedures, work out what compound is actually in the sample, and explain why that chemical species matters to people or the environment.
You collect data from identification tests, match your results to a procedure to identify the chemical species, and link it back to the compound in the sample.
You explain how your data connects to the identification procedure and write equations showing the chemical reactions that occurred during your tests, plus explain why the chemical species matters.
You justify your identification by using both the data you collected and secondary sources (like solubility rules or research) to explain the chemistry of the reactions, and discuss the significance of the chemical species in depth.
