Demonstrate understanding of specific aspects of studied text
You'll study a text in depth in class (a novel, film, short story, or poem) and then answer an exam question about specific features of that text that create meaning or shape how the audience responds to it. You need to show you understand how the writer or creator uses techniques to engage readers or viewers and connect this to your own thoughts and reactions.
You identify relevant features and techniques from the text and provide basic explanations of what they do, supported by some textual evidence.
You explain how multiple aspects work together to create meaning and effect, moving beyond description into clear analysis of how techniques or ideas contribute to the overall impact.
You offer insightful, perceptive analysis that discusses how aspects relate to the author's purpose and impact on the audience, weaving personal engagement and wider connections throughout your response rather than adding them on at the end.
Standards typically taken alongside or after this one. Same subject, grouped by level.
