Perform three categories within a discipline of Te Ao Haka
In this internal standard, students perform three different types (categories) of pieces from one branch (discipline) of Te Ao Haka — for example, three different styles of haka, or three different styles of mōteatea. The performance is assessed on how clearly students show the differences between the three types, how well they communicate the meaning of each piece, and at the top level, how powerfully they tell the story and bring the performance to life with presence and artistry.
You perform all three categories within the same discipline and make the differences between them clear through accurate, precise execution.
You go beyond just performing correctly — you actively communicate the kaupapa (meaning and purpose) of each category through your performance, using appropriate expression to give each piece real meaning.
Your performance demonstrates storytelling artistry and strong technical skill suited to each category's style. You perform with ihi (personal magnetism and passion), wehi (commanding awe and respect), and wana (generating excitement) — bringing the audience into the experience emotionally and artistically.
