Demonstrate knowledge of conventions in a range of music scores
This standard asks you to show that you know and can identify the musical "rules" and symbols that composers use in written music scores. You need to recognize conventions like chord names, time signatures, clefs, and other notational symbols across different types of music (pop, classical, jazz, etc.), and explain what they mean and how they're used.
You identify basic conventions in the score (like root notes or interval quantities) and use some musical vocabulary, but you don't always apply deeper understanding or differentiate between similar concepts (e.g., you know a chord exists but can't say if it's major or minor).
You identify and describe conventions accurately across the scores using specific musical vocabulary, showing you understand the principles, though you may make minor mistakes with more complex conventions like seventh chords or applying transposition with accidentals.
You interpret the questions at a high level, identify all the conventions asked for with near-perfect accuracy, apply them thoughtfully to explain what's happening in the score, and support your observations with clear evidence from the music itself.
