Te tātari i te panonitanga o ngā tikanga Māori
Te tātari i te panonitanga o ngā tikanga Māori
This internal assessment is about analysing how Māori customs and practices (tikanga Māori) have changed over time. Students look at what tikanga used to be like, what it looks like today, why it has changed, and what it might look like in the future. They also explore the short-term and long-term effects of those changes, and how Māori communities have responded. This standard is assessed internally by your teacher (not in an exam) and is worth 4 credits at Level 3.
You discuss what a tikanga Māori looks like now and in the past (within a specific context), explain why it has changed, and give a supported opinion about its future.
You show a more thoughtful and well-supported view of the future of that tikanga. You also discuss both the short-term and long-term effects of the changes, with clear supporting evidence.
You show a sophisticated, insightful view of the future of that tikanga, including both internal factors (e.g. loss of kaumātua knowledge, community values) and external factors (e.g. government policy, economics) that drive change. You also explore the wider effects of those changes and discuss how communities have responded or could respond.
