Interact in spoken Chinese (Mandarin) to share and respond to information, ideas, and opinions
This standard asks you to have a real conversation in spoken Chinese (Mandarin) where you can share and respond to information, ideas, and opinions without a script. You need to be able to talk about things that are happening now, as well as things that happened in the past or might happen in the future. The conversation doesn't need to be perfect—as long as people understand what you're trying to say overall, you can still achieve the standard.
You can have an unrehearsed conversation, share and respond to ideas using relevant language, and make yourself understood overall despite some inconsistencies in vocabulary, sentence structure, or pronunciation.
You use interactive strategies to keep the conversation going, show a variety of vocabulary and sentence types, and build on what the other person says—with communication that isn't significantly hindered by your mistakes.
You use interactive strategies that enhance the conversation (like prompting and extending on details), consistently use well-chosen and varied language with accurate tones and structures, and communicate smoothly without inconsistencies getting in the way.
