This standard asks you to listen to Chinese audio passages on everyday topics and show that you understand what's being said. You need to identify key information, ideas, and opinions from the audio, and explain what you've understood—you can respond in English, Te Reo Māori, or Chinese. The better you understand the deeper meanings and unstated ideas in the passages, the higher your grade.
You understand the general meaning of the passages and can communicate some of what you heard, showing basic understanding of the content.
You understand the passages clearly and select relevant details to support your answers, though you may miss some of the deeper or implied meanings that require more sophisticated interpretation.
You demonstrate thorough understanding by identifying implied meanings and drawing accurate conclusions, backed up by comprehensive evidence from the passages—you show you understand what's meant between the lines.
